Another friend has started touring nationally. I jammed off and on with his Dad, Uncle, him, and his grandfather many years. Billy (playing guitar) rocks, and he's come a long way in the last few years. I don't know of anyone who has more fun playing music.

How did you like him Jay?

spent the night jamming with his band members once. We were both playing at a festival in Mole Lake Wis. and they hung out for the day in the trailer house were staying in. I ended up loaning his keyboard player my little bass amp to play their show through, and helping his bass player for the gig, Kathy Chiavola, work out a couple chord progressions. Had a ball jamming that day.
 
Not being knowledgeable about music, I can`t really say about Vassar with understanding. Everyone said he was so great, and though I enjoyed his playing, not all so much, over the top of my head I think. Restraint is a wonderful quality for artists I think, but it seems a difficult quality for laymen to fully appreciate. He seemed to be a different cut from most fiddlers I have seen. Other musicians show restraint that I really can appreciate from a listening to sense. JJ Cale was one, Clapton sometimes. There must be bluegrass players in that vein, perhaps yourself. Probably a sign of maturity.
 
I know what your saying. Vassar is an acquired taste for sure. He totally has his own sound. I didn't care a lot for his music until I started leaning to play with it, then I gained a much greater understanding of what he was doing musically, and got a lot more enjoyment from it. His playing is influenced a lot from old blues and big band stuff. Makes for a different sound coming from a fiddle.

Dave, when I went to see Jim and Jesse it was mainly because I wanted to hear them play this song, but the Nitty Gritty Dirt band came on first and played it, i suppose why Jim and Jesse didn`t. Still bummed. Never forgave the NGDb. Jesse on the mandolin...:headbang:

Do any of you guys listen to Pandora? I've got it on in my shop all day, everyday. I've listened to bands i would never have heard if not for that. It's really expanded my musical horizons.
