Edit- I listened to a lot of that type of music in high school, we called it underground hip hop but just about anyone over 30 called it rap. When I met people from the East coast they called it backpack hip hop. Anyways, I always liked the different beats and instrumentals, as well as many lyrics of course.
It's hard to get someone who may already have a distaste for that genre to listen to the lyrics and find that the content is not about thuggery or anything of that sort.

I can count to 10 in French. The only channel we got reliably when I was a kid was 65. CBC out of Calgary.
Of course, when they counted to 10 in English, they also had to do it in French!

There are some real differences between our cultures.
All one has to do is to listen to Canadian talk Radio at night to understand. Instead of calling people stoopid idiots like they do down here, Canadians say things like "I disagree, respectfully".
Its a real trip at night when bailing or something. I have often wondered if Canadians have to apply for a licence to call a talk radio show. If you did not graduate high school with high marks in Grammar you dont get a license.
