Small Cable Yarder

Do you want it back then?

Nope, it's somewhat outdated!

After we lost the fleet, we started a national " plant oaktrees for freedom" campaign.
Everybody and their grandmother were planting oaktrees in the state owned forests, so we could build a new naval fleet and kick Britains ass.

In 1970 something, when those trees were finally ripe for harvesting, a state forester send a letter to the ministry of naval defense, telling them that their trees were ready, so they should start building ships and declare war upon Britain.

That is a cute little bugger, Ed. Perfect for your task there.

Y'all might remember these pics, I think from before we lost all the attachments back when...

Set up with a little diesel powered, radio controlled carriage. Nice outfit.

This is what we call a small cable yarder hereabouts :).

Here's a Bowman unit, a little bigger, but still sized for the yarder shown. And a couple of pics showing the yarder's rated capacity (if you look closely, you can read the numbers), and the talky tooter signal code, for fun.

Ed needs to get a poster like that one to post on his yarder.:D.

Me too. Different crews and different types of yarders may use slightly different toots

Didn't see the gas and oil or the chainsaw whistle or block and strap, I dare say theres many more

As a chocker man come dogs body on this job i can say it sucks big time !
Pulling out the chockers 150' sideways at a 800' distance is a bit of a sod to say the least !!

I caught that 3rd picture down on the little fawn .

It is truely amazing that real young ones like that will just stay real calm and not move if you walk up on them . In a day or two they can run nearly as fast as the doe .

My wifes cousins kids came across one in my woods a few years back that was about that size .:)

It didn't look like that fawn was having any of your rock, paper, scissors action.

Is that the job that's crushed Matt's soul?

This is a great thread. I don't know how I missed it before. I've worked under a lot of yarders in the past. Generally though they came in and logged after I was done and gone. But a few times they were right on me. And I can't say much good about that. Amazing machines though. Big and small alike.

Wow, I just saw this at Steve B's place.
