Here's a car for, Paul

If there’s one thing that we never expected to see, it’s the sight of an 8-wheeled electric vehicle attempting to break the land speed record. But that is exactly what the Eliica is attempting to do. Designed by a team at Keio University in Japan, this fully electric lithium-ion vehicle may be short on subtlety, but it has a range of 200 miles and can hit speeds of up to 230mph!

I does seem like that would make for increased rolling resistance.

Keio university is a first rate university...I mean if you like that sort of thing. Lots of smart guys there.

.

Maybe they found influence in this?

That is an amazing car, but when the Citroen DS came out, it was just as futuristic. That used to be the trademark of Citroen, cutting edge design and tecnology. The Traction avant was the first front wheel drive car etc. I have had 5 citroens and loved them, but nowadays they have lost that edge, they are no different from other cars in my opinion.............pity!
They startde produktion of the 2CV just after WW2 and 50 years later there were still a lot of them around, mine for example. 48 miles to the gallon and a top speed of 75 mph. real easy to do your own repairs on, a great little car.

OOOOps............sorry for derailing.

Any car that can go 200 miles on a single charge HAS to have a LOT of battery! The electric motors are heavy too. My bet would be 4 axles due to the weight!:O

That and maybe spreading the drive out over more than on axle means the tires last a little longer on takeoff.

My guess is it was to match the available size of the electric motors to the car. Needed 8 to achieve the necessary power to achieve 230 mph.

Electric engines have more torque than gas ones so they probably need better traction to put it to use.

That car looks like something out of the old Captain Scarlet show.

pretty cool, thanks Gerry!
Now I need to go find it on youtube :)

For this last video the actual car parts come in at about 7:25 or so when they hit the test track.
