I found this orange/red fungus on several dead branches in a red oak. Is it a type of wood decaying fungus? Anyone know the name?

oak isn't listed. I also question the presence on the deadwood based on the description from the link above. Shouldn't be much sugar in the dead wood, no?

I wasn’t so concerned about the specific species as it just said “common species affected”. I do question the sugar concentration of dead wood. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t any though. It’s unlikely but it fungus may have killed the branch rather than the branch having been cut off by the parent tree for lack of production. But, the dead branches were in shaded areas.

It seems the best course of action is to remove the affected dead branches to prevent spreading of the pathogen. It is able to infect dead wood and able to spread to healthy tissue in some situations. The host tree in question is a very mature oak in the red family. It is my understanding that trees, like people, are more susceptible to disease when old. 2 of the affected branches are above targets anyway so these should come out no matter what.
