Do they make a muff kit for a petzl Ecrin?

I was thinking of trying one, I see them around a lot on Vents. Sean wasn't there the day I called and asked Wesspur, and the guy was clueless. Putting plugs in and out all day make for dirty ears.

If not maybe I'll just get a Vent, my Ercin is probably 5 yrs old, and I hear the plastic gets brittle over time. :/:

I think that I've heard that you are supposed to have new helmets/ hard hats periodically due to the brittleness factor. Date of manufacture may be molded into the inside of the helmet.

I had a peltor visor/ muff set. It wasn't perfect, but lasted 2 years, which was longer than I figured it would last. Finally a plastic clip broke, so now I'm working with earplugs alone. Muffs are supposed to reduce indirect vibration through your head or something, behind the outer ear. Little metal bolt on adapters for the Ecrin Roc, no drilling. I changed the plastic bolts to metal with lock washers.

 I guess my age is showing! But in regards to hearing, after 30 yrs of marriage, I don't wanna hear any more!:/:

Hey Brendon - Sorry I missed you the other day. I was home sick. Sherrill does indeed sell the muff adapters for the Ecrin Roc, but I was warned by Petzl that we should not sell them because they reduce the crush strength of the helmet. Apparently plugging up some of the holes changes the way the shell flexes, which can make it break easier. It was because of this issue that Petzl came out with the Vertex, which has the ear muff adapters built right into it.

Brendon...if you want to overlook Petzl's concerns, I have a set of the adaptor plates for the Ecrin Roc; I'll give them to you. I used them for a while, but when I got a Vertex I took them off.

Man, I love that about this place. It's amazing how much extra gear and supplies we all seem to have laying around. So when somebody asks about a certain item, it's not surprising when somebody else has an extra one to share. I hate seeing stuff go to waste or rot away on a shelf. I always get a big kick when stuff like this happens. :)

Sweet Burn, I'll gladly take you up on the offer.

I actually have two practically brand new Vertex's for my occasional groundie. I just never liked the looked of them and never wore it for more than a minute. Maybe I'll try the kit on those too.

Ordered the hearing protection this morning from Wesspur.

I'll try them on both the Vertex, and Ecrin, and update.

You'll find they fit over your ears easier and better, mounted on the Vertex...the rim of that helmet is shaped to allow the muffs to fit under it. With the Ecrin Roc I had to tuck them into place more carefully to get a good sound seal...works ok, just not as well.

I agree...I had to bend the arms of the earmuffs to get them to fit properly with the Roc, it worked though.
I also take the earmuff/visor combo off quite often as I am doing a lot of silky saw work, then click it back for the chainsaw work...the little tab on the earmuff mount is beginning to wear as its plastic against the metal of the adaptor.
I have a Vertex Vent, but don't like how it is 'back heavy' with the earmuffs up...Oh what a fussy thing I am!

Brendon, my apologies...I got diverted from my original plans for the day and won't be getting over to my gear shed after all...it'll have to wait for next week before I get them mailed.
