No prob Burn!

I got the muffs today from Wesspur. Bulky bastards, not sure how I'm going to like it. I threw them on the Vertex but I really don't like the helmet at all, weird shaped, looks silly, and the Ecrin fits me better.

I was thinking if I decide to leave them on the Ecrin...instead of those cheap plastic nuts and bolts, I can get a stainless bolt, with a wing nut for the inside. Easy on and off depending on the job. I'll have to see them in person first obviously, then decide if that'll work.

I agree...I had to bend the arms of the earmuffs to get them to fit properly with the Roc, it worked though.
I also take the earmuff/visor combo off quite often as I am doing a lot of silky saw work, then click it back for the chainsaw work...the little tab on the earmuff mount is beginning to wear as its plastic against the metal of the adaptor.
I have a Vertex Vent, but don't like how it is 'back heavy' with the earmuffs up...Oh what a fussy thing I am!

I think pretty much every helmet is somewhat off balance with the muffs up...Fiona, try parking the muffs right over the front of the helmet above your eyes, or shifting them slightly aft of there, to get rid of that "back heavy" feeling.

The best part is, then you look like you have Mickey Mouse ears on. :D

Brendon, I would be wary of using wing nuts on the inside of your helmet. In fact, I'd probably flip the bolts around so the nut is on the outside. Otherwise it could put a mighty good dent in your skull if you ever get whacked hard enough to need the helmet for protection. If you have a spike on the inside then you might as well not wear it.

This set I have uses nylon nuts and bolts...just the right length to minimize intrusion. I don't think they're cheap, they are impervious to rust. Have worked fine for me.

I agree with Skwerlito.

Ha ha, for real! But the vertex itself sticks out at the back, must be my little head...The Roc fits better.
But then as the saying goes...it's all about looking awesome..:)

Haha, he could pass for a mouseketeer if you don't look too close:lol:

The adapters will go out in the morning mail, Brendon.

I no longer have the installation instructions, but once you know where they go it's stupid simple. They are mirror image, built for left and right side. There is a little folded lip on the bottom end that fits the edge of the helmet just aft of the adjustment wheel on each side. I'll mark them L and R. The nylon nut goes on the outside, and there are two nylon washers for each bolt, each mounted on both the inside and the outside. The nylon bolt goes through the middle vent hole on the lower row of vents on each side.

Here's some pics:

What a clever idea. It sure doesn't look like it would reduce the impact protection of the helmet. I wonder if it really does, and if it does, I wonder by how much?

Got them today, thanks again B.

I'll give them a try at work, they seemed to fit nicely around my ears, but a noticeable difference between the 33nrr ear plugs I usually use.

They work well with earplugs that aren't corded.

I had the nylon nuts come loose, and was forced to replace with steel. Maybe a bit of chewing gum will help them hold tight, but be removable easily enough. I don't think that loctite is good for the application.

Steel would probably be fine if you used the same style nuts and bolts with the smooth head on the inside and the nut on the outside.

Mine are steel...flat washer and a small nut on the inside, kinda like my head!:D
