Joel, is that the normal appearance of the wood, or is there spalting going on from decay? That first pic is my favourite looking slab. Looks like coffee table material. Even the slabs with heart check, splitting them down the check and then putting back together would make for a very nice table. Hope the wood dries well for you.

Some spalting Jay we expected to find more tbh. Another friend of a friend has a CNC for wood so we plan to zipper or s them back together possibly. Really amazed at how many slabs we made. Out of just two pieces of this tree!

Thanks. Never used a CNC, I know they can do some amazing things. A simple edge joint with splines in the middle for strength would be a good way to join them as well and get minor disturbance to the grain. Ideally done well so you have a minimal glue line and a really tight joint especially on the ends. Wood has to be well seasoned for edge jointing though, or the ends will spread after being glued up.

How much can you get for one of those slabs?

Ideally as much as one can get in honesty I hope a couple grand a piece on a few once air dried then kiln and run through a plainer or is it planner? I know I will have a dining room table. A buddy makes guitars and basses and will get a bunch. A guy on a milling forum said they could and should fetch close to 4 but I don't see that as realistic unless it were a finished piece. What say you Jay?

Those are really nice slabs. On the Forestry Forum, pecan is known as Devil wood, as it is a real pain to bandsaw, and also to dry. (And it's planer )

Maybe Joel's wood will dry well if it has already lost a good amount of water while still in the log.

It was cut from a live tree back in Dec we paraffin waxed the ends after.

The large amount of spalding may make it a good deal more stable when drying.

Amazing wood slabs...thanks for sharing. We have some old pecan trees that large...the day one has to come down I am going to remember this thread. My cousin about 20 miles from our farm has a mill of some type. I'll have to start asking him whazzup.

I have serious wood envy...

Rob has been pretty busy just turning pine logs into lumber. I have the deck to build and flooring... and... welll... we have a lot of projects.
Might be some cedar and maybe some walnut coming. Waiting to hear on it.
