Cookies, so crosscutting not ripping, and soft wood.

Lots of stuff that's too wide, needing to be ripped down.

I have to mill a 22' fir log for a mill shed header.

Supposed to have a milling job today but my f150 wasn't supposed to break the front coil spring in 3 places. Anyway got the strut changed. Decided to troubleshoot my 088 that didn't run up to power after I rebuilt the carb, turned out it just needed to be tuned. A little off from what I remember tuning it to, but then I remembered I bitched up the original carb and this was one I found on ebay. Anyway, wednesday is the first milling of over a year. Carbon tax and inflation has frigged up a lot of people up here.

We slabbed a large Ash burl for table tops today.
Got 10 nice slabs.

Is that the common definition of a "slab"? I always considered a slab an extra thick live edge board. I'd call a crosscut a "cookie", though those guys you were cutting stretch that to point of breaking.

How the fubk would I know, I'm Danish!
Since that is a round burl, they are certainly not crosscut "cookies", so I called them "Slabs".
They are live edge and extra thick.........................4" in fact.
Once they are dry, we plan to set a router up so it can move back and forth and sideways in a frame and use that to straighten them out.

Surprised you free-handed it.

We used 2 pieces of wood set at 90 degrees with a sharpened nail set at 4" to scribe a line to cut along, touched that up with a blue piece of logging crayon to make it more visible.
Worked a charm, we are within 5 millimeters over all.
Get 2 pros on the saw and tell them to cut along a line..........what's the problem?

Ah, free-hand with a guide line. A good solution.

Did you prep the log with the paint, or was that the customer? Seems like most people wouldn't know to do that.

This was the only deadwood of significance in the part of the oak over the propane tank. It was still solidly attached. An old break.

Might throw a small, green oak log on the mill to have a look.
I only have to span 4' between mill supports where I have a clamp.

I might have some good charcuterie logs.

Edit: did one...



Cedar 2x2 for deer fencing around the garden, some boards for replacement flatbed trailer sides, and some slabs for a cat-io. The neighbor's cat has been attacked a couple times recently, but cries if shut inside at night.

I doubt a cat would survive a single coyote attack, let alone more than one.

Another, younger cat, I suspect. My gf lost a cat due to infecting from fighting... it's her neighbor who made the cat-io. It just needs a good perch or two to finish it off.

I have. It started out with the operator doing all the work, so I decided to just hang on for the ride until he stuffed it (should've been my job), then he let me do more of the cut regulation.

White Oak



Also milled some white pine with a 572 and full skip. Not bad power wise, but I'd like a lot more.
