I'm curious what people like serrations for other than cutting turf and bread.
Well I use it for cutting rope. A serrated edge will keep it's sharp longer cutting rope. Though like Paul said a well sharpened standard edge will fly through rope & some other materials faster it wont do it as many times in my experience.
Also when cleaning fish & game the serrated edge is great on thinner bones. Some thing that would spoil a fine sharpened standard edge.

Paul, Murry Carter is one of my favorite knife makers. I have one of His neck knives around here some place....... His knives are an elegant simplicity in form & function!

Cool RR, I handled a couple of his knives a couple years ago locally, he was still in Japan doing his thing when I first emailed him for info, even though he is back stateside, i still cant afford his tools! lol

I realize that you guys are talking about working knives ( or killing knives!) but still:

This is my favourite.
I love to cook and for my 30 year anniversary in karate, the people in my dojo gave me this japanese chef's knife.

I have owned a few really good kitchen knives over the years, but this one beats them all for sharpness.

Aha,folded steel ,the Japanese were very good at it . Nearly a lost form these days with very few experts in the field left . It lives on though among a select few .

Murray mentioned at his site what it takes to be granted the master knife maker status in the states, one part being that the knife you've forged can be put into a vise and bent 90 degrees without breaking. I'd heard that before. A stringent test. He has the qualification.

Best knife l ever bought was Puma. Looked just like a rosewood Buck folder but cost $90 35 years ago. Opened a can of oil for the hog in Richmond and forgot and left it lay, l shouldn't own a knife that cost over 50 cents... or smoke herb...

Mine was stolen too Jay... Sheffield Steel brought back from UK by my dad with a deer horn handle.. :( I loved that blade... Saved my life once.... Sad day when it vanished.
