ok willy i'll let a few 4 ft 6 in pieces go .
but you are all right. i am selling the wood, and m antoine has it,
i'll use a 2nd block and lowering device like i had set up in the garberville pics so i can catch it a few feet away from me and so it wont slap the spar tree, or the bldgs around it

sounds like all is groovy, if there are enough wraps to control decent

i almost got the hobs, but for half a G more why not

now i've also got an extra ratcheting one from Karl Kumerlings.....anyone have interest in it? cause i doubt i will need it anymore
gonna watch vids over the weekend..thanks you all rock

Is that one from KK any good? We were looking at those awhile back and decided against it. I honestly wouldn't mind getting my hands on a nonratcheting version of one.

get the non ratcheting one, it is sweet,
the ratcheting one only rocks if you know how to use it, and i fired the 1 guy who knew how to use it, none of us have been able to use it as well as he did, hence the new toy
i use the no ratcheting as my catch device, cant tell you how bad its been over loaded and held huge loads

congrats Dave! I bought a HOBBS about six months back. Both are great devices. If you have multiple trees around you might be able to setup two or three lines to do the lifting which may make it safer and easier on the gear. Sounds like a fun job

jp:D
thanks bro wish you could be here to play in these reds, i almost bought the hobbs, i was so close, if it wasnt for getting a check in i would have,

oh god...i got it today, i just put it together with the wife, might have to go to grandmas house and set p a lift tree this weekend and lift a log or something to get used to it
all i can say is this is sweet

Dave: Congrats. Let us know how it goes. I work in a shop full of super stodgy old-timers. If you can believe this: our shop manager actually ordered and received a GRCS over three years ago, but it sat in our shop completely unused, because our two removal foremen weren't familiar with it--"I don't need that stupid piece of %#@*" Etc.

I finally defied the removal gods and broke the darned thing out. Now we all fight over who gets it for the day. I recommend just starting out with the bollard, and thinking of it as a Porta-Wrap, and then switching to the winch. Up here we don't really have too many applications for the winch, but when we do, it's sweet. You're gonna love it.

When are you taking these Trees down? If I am in town I would be happy to help out and give you some pointers with the GRCS.Going to California and Cutting a Redwood would be a dream come true.I might even get my Girlfreind interested, well more interested than driving to Oregon to go to Cabela's anyway.

The Springfield cabelas is not really worth driving out of your way, the one in Reno is awesome though!

I used mine for the first time in a long time thursday. dont use it very much but im glad i have it. we use a port a wrap most of the time as we dont have a lot of big wood to lower.

There's 3 different videos that go with the GRCS.

1. How to setup, use and maintain the GRCS. About an hour long
2. The Drop Load Test, short and probably what people remember most relating to the GRCS.
3. Last, The Safety First Video, It was made after a fellow knowingly misused the GRCS and got hurt.

The owner of a GRCS should have and view all three videos.

I believe the machine comes with number 1 and 3 videos. The Drop Load Test was just a stunt. Ha

How did the guy misuse it and what happened?

He pulled off a fair lead. It bent and the rope hit him. Stupid. The sad part of the story is the fellow knew it was wrong to pull off the fair lead and went ahead and did it anyway. He admitted it all in court and still got a settlement. What a system, hey? Rewarding the stupid.

Crazy bad

You'd have to be crazy to sell to treemen...

You know i'm kidding, sorta. I trust you have decent legal firewalls in place. It's a shame that it's necessary

btw, your avatar, was that a removal or pruning? Massive.

TD about 10 years ago, $5500 which is still the most Ive had on 1 tree to date. The bottom 2 feet weighed 2000lbs:O

That crotch that Im in was at 60-70'. Big sucker for East Coast
