Is or isn't?

At least it's a Stihl and not a Husky trim saw .Oil pumps on the 020/200's aren't hard to remove .On the Huskys they are part of the case .

I've seen a lot of saws tossed out over here for the smallest of problems, courtesy of my friend who works at the refuse disposal place. It's hard to imagine what some people were thinking, unless they were dead and their wives were thinking for them.

My friend's upstairs above his garage is packed with saws, mostly Stihl, and weed cutters. I've gleaned a couple when he was feeling generous.
 
Jay, I got your used oiler pump and drive gear mailed out today. The postage was a grand total of $2.28, so you owe me big time! :lol:

Thanks very much, Brian! I'll repay the debt through the treehouse donation, as you suggested. Doing the bank deposit for the auction today, so the saw should get to me in a couple days. Already have a bar and new chain waiting. Whoopee!

My saw arrived in good order. It is so clean, I must be dreaming! It started right up and with some adjustment runs great. It appears to be a real good deal. On the oiler, I'm waiting for the one that Brian kindly sent to arrive.

I didn't pull off the muffler, do you guys find that there is any modification that is good for the saw? Is that commonly done? There already isn't a screen on it.

Without the screen you should be in good shape. They are real hot rods for as small as they are. I'm glad it turned out well for you and it's in such good shape.

Have you taken off the clutch to look at the oiler? My first guess would be the plastic drive gear is stripped out. I included the drive gear with the oiler pump.

Thanks. I took it to the job yesterday to show off, and the crane guy immediately said, "I'll give you three mon for it" (abouu$350). I said no, but would find him one. He said find me two. :|:

Yes, the oiler gear moves, but with a lot of stiffness. I seem to have freed it up a bit, but it is still stiff. This 020 has a worm gear arrangement, the gear looks in decent enough shape, but is getting worn. I'm hoping that your pump and driver gear will just replace.
 
You don't really have to do anything except what's been mentioned with the screen .

I souped one but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort only to prove to myself I could . -- and that was because some Canadian said you couldn't ;)Of course it's faster than a stocker but at the end of the day it's doubtfull you could tell much more production .Drinks fuel to beat the band .

The parts list link is real helpful to have. Yes, it appears to be the same pump, and the parts list shows it as "worm", so it should just slip in good as new. :)

Anyone know what the spec for max rpm is on those?
 
Around 14 or so stock . My hot rod is around 15.2 I think


Generally speaking the oilers are pretty reliable .About the only problems most experiance is a blown clutch side seal and that rarely .Of course the carbs but not everyone has problems with them .
 
I think I recall setting mine around 14,200-14,400. I don't have proof that this is correct but it seems like I've read that number before and the saw sounds right at that level.

14000 range, that is cool for a stock saw. The saw has a Zama carb, unlike the one that I had worked on with a Walbro in it. Possible a late model 020 after they had switched over to Zama? I'm assuming that being an early type, it perhaps doesn't have the accelerator pump type? It is running a bit like the diaphragm is getting stiff.

The oil pump parts that you kindly sent arrived in good order today, thanks for the help, Brian! Good oil flow now, the saw is in great shape. In lieu of your not wanting any payment, I will happily make a contribution to the house, as you mentioned. :)


Strange muffler on those saws....thin elongated thing. I couldn't help but do a little grinding on it a bit after taking it apart, gives a little easier flow at the exit. Beech to get the gasket in place when reinstalling it.

The pump was quite stiff, probably malfunctioning inside, and the gear was getting worn from working so hard.

Just some superfluous information, but the air filter is a completely different arrangement on the rear handled saw. It's a plastic round tube that is sealed on the ends with a mesh covering. Never have seen anything like it.
 
Maybe the pump was fried from running used motor oil or some other unsuitable fluid through it?
I think you're going to love that little saw, enjoy it. :thumbup:

Looking forward to it, actually taking it to a job tomorrow. :) I can tell from the little bit of disassembly and such that it is a very well built saw.

Has anyone seen the Stihl E lite bars? I was looking at one today on an MS200, and it is hard to imagine a bigger piece of junk. The center of the bar is made from some kind of light composite material, it appears. You can take your finger and push on the center and the whole thing will distort and deflect out the other side. The rails will easily bend out of shape. I can't possibly think of what they might have in mind with those. I tried using it, and it cuts ok with an a straight aligned cut, but any horizontal stresses on the bar and it stops cutting. Maybe that particular bar was buggered up or something, but the whole arrangement seems very unorthodox, and unlike the other light bars on the market. You might give those a pass.
 
I've been using the e-light bars for about 6-7 years and love them. They are a lot tougher than they look. You're not supposed to use it as a pry bar.

No kidding, you like them! No pry bar use here, but the center part was really loose. It was on a recently acquired used saw that someone purchased, so was probably damaged. I noticed that it had been painted over, and there were some vacant small holes along the length, like some rivets or plugs were missing...? The first and only one that I have seen, so feel free to discredit my review. 30% lighter I think I read.
