I'm dang close to throwing down ....1 who to source ? the big three are probably Bailey's , Wesspur , Sherrill .... 2 Add ons , gonna skip the truck hitch for now ... what about the visor plate ?? Pigtail assembly ?? .... 3 New rope as well I'm thinking 200" of 9/16 ??..... 4 will this device substantily improve my quality of life or contribute to my overall sense of well being ???? thanks in advance for the helpful answers ! Dave

1. That's really up to you! Although, Wessupr does have the free shipping which is a nice perk.

2. I bought the visor plate, but have rarely used it.

3. 200' of 9/16 might get ya a little further than 200":P

4. Purchasing the GRCS will make you eternally happy! In all honestly it can turn riskier situations in to safe situations, and also allow you to finish certain jobs in a much faster manner. I use it quite a bit for situations other then rigging also. I have used it for speed lining, and I have use it with a redirect for bringing over whole trees and stems. It's a versatile tool. Almost all of the reviews I have read about the GRCS have been very positive!

Is all the pricing the same? What's the going rate now? I'm also thinking about the throwdown, even with the crappy exchange. I bid a job yesterday that sure would be nice to have some cranking power on.

1. Since I work at Wesspur, I'll skip this one
2. Definitely get the visor plate. It makes big removals a lot easier/safer.
3. I'd go with 5/8" Stable braid instead of 9/16". The main reason for getting this tool is for the big jobs, which 9/16" might now always be cut out for.
4. Yes! Remeber what it felt like the first time you successfully lowered a big top? Well multiply that by 10 and then do it on every job.

I thought I would want the visor but have never had the unit slip. I run 1/2" on it most times and break out the 5/8" for the big stuff

I don't have a GRCS but the rope size choice occurred to me, too. I have a 9/16 Stable braid for my "big stuff"...but I think I would want 5/8 for a GRCS and real big stuff.

Line diameter is less critical ... I have two 1/2" lines as well as a 200' hank of 5/8" Stable Braid all devoted to rigging only .... I thought considering ths SWL of the GRCS a nice new 9/16" would be a tadger easier to handle , maybe wrap better , and keep the surfaces clean of my new baby ...

Don't know squat about 'em, but -Wesspur.

Just dropped some bread with them myself a few minutes ago, too.

Hey ! Ger thanks for the encouragment , as well as the viideos ! Maybe it's my age but at this point I'd much rather have hoisting capabilities , instead of piecing out EVERY friggin' limb .... The video you did with Gregg in that Tan Oak REALLY drove it home for me .... as Gregg said "this really puts some power into the hands of the groundman!" Thanks Again Ger !

Y'all GRCS snobs are getting me psyched. I really want one for sure. I'm thinking tomorrow I could use one. We'll see.

I'd go with Wesspur only they haven't gotten me a catalog yet, so I guess I'll have to shop around.:/:

:lol:Just razzing ya Sean. Wesspur is the place to shop.

My GRCS gets used less than once a month but when we need it it is nothing short of golden and everyone loves what it can do. It pays for itself quickly even if it isn't an every day tool. I take branches off with 1/2" line and switch to 5/8" for large trunk sections. I'd skip the visor for now and buy another block to dedicate above the device.

Also, I'd be really explicit with your ground guys not to try to pull a branch up by having two guys pull on the rope while it is in the pig tail. Having your pigtail fly off the first time you use it is not a good thing. "AHHHH I can never own anything good!"

That's relative.

IMO, the best thing you can get for a GRCS (assuming you have blocks already) is a 1/2" high mod rope with a poly cover.
