Having a grapple or any kind of crane cuts down your payload and messes with your axel weights. Unless there is already alot of room behind the cab where the crane will sit ,your dad is going to have to reduce the length of the load bed.
Crane's are just clamped to the chassis, the crane mounts are adjustable and they do fit alot of trucks. As long as the recipent truck has enough hydraulic flow and tank it should be doable .
