I often wonder what fishing would have been like a few hundred years ago. I don't think that the coastal native peoples suffered for want of food. Wish I could find the picture of caught Halibut laying on a beach from that era, unbelievable.

I often wonder what fishing would have been like a few hundred years ago. I don't think that the coastal native peoples suffered for want of food. Wish I could find the picture of caught Halibut laying on a beach from that era, unbelievable.

Jay, I've thought about it countless times. I've wondered about how abundant seafood must have been, how the Indians fished here, what kind of gear they used and how they prepared the fish and mollusks to eat. There are many oyster and clam shell mounds, pottery shards and the like, but very little real known history other than that. I look at a shark's teeth and think of what great arrow heads they must've made, pre-shaped and razor sharp. The same with stingray barbs, what a horrible weapon and excellent fish spear point they would make. You're right, food gathering would've been pretty easy because even now you could walk the beach with a sharp stick and never go hungry.

Ray, you're right about abundance still from the sea, if you know what is edible and how to get it. I met two woman from Vietnam, man they were in tune with shoreline food, quite amazing really.

Well. It hasn't killed me any fish yet but my new to me fishing boat has turned out to be a kayak!

Very cool Squish! I've been doing a lot in the kayaks both fishing and snorkeling lately because of outboard trouble and I must say I've enjoyed it. Getting back in when you're overboard can be a little tricky though! Those 12' Tarpons are supposed to track really straight and you've got plenty of storage space too. Nice boat

Took a couple of my crew the other day. Mike's first fish ever was a twelve pound salmon, look at that cheese!

I'm actually not very good at salmon, but I love chasing them and steelhead

Damn crazy Willie, pulling in some nice ones. We won't have any salmon fishing here due to drought. I think basically all freshwater is closed until further notice.

Thanks Ray, I was looking at boats and was really trying to talk myself into one but this just made more sense for what I have access to here.
