Wow! very nice pictures.

I only skimmed through there on my trip. But it is a place I would love to spend some time at a later date.

Glad to hear Terri is on the mend, just sorry it had to happen in the first place.

Glad to hear you are better. I like a hiking stick too so I pack a 6" folding saw in the luggage then use it to cut a staff out of something dead, works great

I visited Bryce and Zion in 1958. I still remember Bryce very clearly, while most other parts of the trip are pretty blurry. It even impressed an 11 year old. Have to get back there again. Beautiful photos!

I tend to go off trail to capture views that can only come through going off trail. And more than a few times I have met my match and taken a fall or two. Lucky for the most part to come out with just bruises and shaken ego. I can see my twilight years I'm going to have to be a lot more careful with my off trail ventures. It's hard for me to accept the fact that I am not as sure-footed as I was in the past.

It is difficult to accept. But it is a fact.

I hear that loud and clear, Jer. Very :(. With my artificial hip I have to be extra careful. The PA on my surgical team tells me that for people in my situation, it's more often the awkward position and torque that occurs when getting back up that causes a serious problem, rather than the initial fall.

That's something to think about.

I recall waking up after being knocked unconscious from a fall. The pain was horrible when I woke up, but I laid there and moved my fingers and toes, then my wrists and ankles, then my knees and elbows and finally my hip, neck and back. Other than being badly shaken from the impact I suffered no broken bones.

The walk back to the truck was less than a mile and it took over an hour to do.

lucky on that one

Very cool Jerry! It's awesome seeing your photos, about two years ago Karen won a free trip to Vegas for two at a radio event. I wasn't excited at all didn't have any desire to see vegas but we had to use the tickets. We ended up spending only one night out of the three we had in vegas and spent the other two in Zion camping and then went to the grand canyon. It was an amazing trip, which we didn't even expect either. WE've since been planning to return, the colors in that part of the country are unbelievable gives a deep sense of peace and freedom. Thanks for sharing!

Vegas was no fun. We spent a day there only because our flight home was 4 am the next day. We spent a couple hours on the strip for lack of anything else to do at the time. We both hated it. Too many people....herds and herds of them. The hype and noise were disturbing to us. And the smells! Every woman you pass is drenched in perfume. Some of the casinos are perfumed. We had to go there just to check it out.

Some non English speaking friends and folks that I sometimes work with, have asked me to one day take them on a trip to the USA. I'd love to do that, and these are folks that would really appreciate the splendor of the parks in the states, that is where I would most want to take them. It also occurred to take them to Vegas, given the rareness of the place. After Terri's critique, I dunno..... I have never been there myself. I think a tour visiting national parks would create some lasting memories for my friends and myself. The photos posted here are sure enticing, the scale and grandeur are really something, I think it would blow their minds.

For those of us that were never very sure footed to begin with, i wonder if it is possible to get better with age? :D

My wife and I only stayed for a couple of hours. That did it for us.
I don't care for gambling, buying a California state lottery ticket everytime I go there, is enough for me.

Zion is magnificent. Just a pity it is so overrun now. When we visited first time 30 years ago it was much better.
Last time, in 2005, we did like you two and stuck to the back country.

First time we were in Bryce Canyon I had just broken a couple of ribs in a sparring match. That sure took some of the fun out of hiking around up there.

We sure enjoyed looking at the pictures of your trip.
Brought back some happy memories:)

Jerry, spectacular pics, as usual. Brings back good memories for me, as I had many trips thru that country in the 70's. The sky was so blue, and you could hike all day without seeing another person. One thing I remember was the "silence." It was so quiet, you could stop along a trail somewhere and hear your heart beating loudly. Did you guys experience that?

Yes....we remarked to each other a couple times about the quietness.

Vegas has some behind the scenes activity going as well, people living in the maze of viaducts that route under the town and casinos, sometimes with an alarm warning system in place in case anyone gets to thinking.... Every now and then flash floods come along and clear it out. Poor natural drainage in those parts if you put a town there as well. Not exactly a tourist attraction, probably better to get a smoothie and enjoy the neon above.
