I planted trees on a few zillion acres of units that were broadcast burned for site prep, back in the days that was the norm. Then did stocking surveys. Same up close and personal with black as logging burned timber...or mopping up after a fire, for that matter. I particularly recall the black snot .

I was lucky on that score...M was spending her days doing exactly the same work, so she understood on a cellular level what was what . That's what the machines were bought for, right?
