Can't believe people hunt the dang things. I get a kick out of them.

Now that most of the birds have gone south it seems pretty quiet around here. I miss them.

I saw a Kingfisher today.


Not sure if I have ever seen one before.

No pics....I was driving.

Kingfishers are cool. I used to see them a good bit when I was paddling all the time, but I don't often see them in my daily travels.

They are a fine bird. We see them pretty regular along the creeks and rivers hereabouts. Loud, easily recognizable call.

Geeze...I forgot to say that I saw a Kestrel the other day too.


Haven't seen many of them.

I used to see kestrels a good bit. More than once a year for sure. I saw one perched a couple months ago, but aside from that it's been years. I made a half assed attempt to see if anything happened to them, but everything I saw said 'no problem'. Dunno why they aren't as plentiful as they used to be. They're easy to spot when they're hunting.

We see kestrels on an almost daily basis around our place and elsewhere rural like us. They are quite beautiful.

Saw a flock of woodpeckers the other morning. In the afternoon in the same spot there was a flock of swallows. Must be a meeting spot. The barn swallows have been gone for weeks. Cliff or Tree maybe.

Huh... I didn't know woodpeckers flocked. I don't think I've seen more than two at a time.

Sometimes I see a small group of flickers, but otherwise it does seem to be just a couple together and far more often solitaries.

After some research I think they were Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers.

He had a house sparrow.


There is a video on the internet of an assault Kestrel that someone is using on Starlings.

I had 2 great blue herons fly nearby, overhead, today. Closest I've ever been to one, and it was 2!

Pterodactyls! They look pretty cool when then fly. They also look cool when they perch in trees. Kind of weird seeing such a big bird in the trees.

I remember when I was about 7 and scared a Blue Heron up off our creek. I was quite convinced it was a prehistoric monster. About the same year I found a large northern pike on the shore that was just bones. It had quite a mouthful of teeth. Looked like an alligator to me. Kid imagination.
