Saw this on the 'buzz. What do you folks think...

Now there is 3 choices then. Oregon, Stihl, Husky has the rechargeable trim saws.

One thing I notice and raise and eyebrow about is that in that whole video there wasn't even 4 seconds worth of film of the saw actually cutting something.

Oh, I lied- I saw it on facebook, not the buzz, fwiw...

Found this vid of the Stihl one. I do a lot of light work- I sorta wanna try it!

If it's so quiet (as they tout several times)... why are all the operators wearing earplugs? :/:

FYI, 20 cm is just under 8".

LiION is expensive; but the service is far better than anything previous.

currently bateries are expensive and prone to short service lives, hence no plans for an electric Wraptor

...yet

For pruning, 8" is useful, but limiting. It still might be worth trying out depending on the price

Looks like it can be had for about $350. Seems about right.

Just did some research and there's some crucial info you need to know. BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED!!!! There are two types of batteries, the AP80 runs for about 20 minutes and the AP160 runs for about 30 minutes. Then you have to buy the charger separate, too.

AP80 $150
AP160 $259
Rapid Charger is $90

So for an hour's worth of run time, it's cheaper to get 3 AP80s. You'd be at $450, plus $90 for the charger, so you're looking at about $900 total, not just $350.

I don't like the sound of it....but still am interested.

Pretty heavy saw at 10.8 lbs for lite pruning seeing it weighs alot more then a MS200. The weight of this Stihl electric saw will have to drop about 5 lbs to make it attractive for pro work.

NOW WE'RE TALKIN'!!! ... I'll have one as soon as I see one ... FO SHO. :blob6:

Thanks Nick!!!

$900 :O ... well, maybe NOT

Still though, nice work, Nick

My Stihl dealer was talking about the release of a Battery powered saw when I bought his last (for now) 200T The numbers were real close. He said their first release saw was to target the homeowner.

The guy at the local stihl place that I talked to said the stihl battery powered stuff was designed with commercial use in mind. I'm not sure if I believe it.

This seems like a "pay more, get less" situation.

Just what I was thinking...I get vexed sometimes draging the 200t around and have often thought it would be nice to have a tiny chainsaw...the weight and battery time nix it for me, I'll get more small stuff done still with the Silky...or maybe a 192?

Sooooo I would have to run a genny on my truck to charge more batteries up as I need them all day... Sounds like plumbing all over again  No electricity does not pollute... Just the technology that makes most of it

It's great for working in enclosed spaces, that's about it. Maybe working early morning or at night?

I was wondering about the earplugs, too.

Good point about the possibility to use early or late. Around LA I have to wait until 8am to make noise. Usually not a prob, but it'd be nice to occasionally get some work done beforehand.

But I'm with you guys for now. Too heavy, too expensive, and doesn't seem like you're getting what you pay for. I can definitely see myself getting one of these one day, but not right now. Not at these specs and this price.

My Dewalt 18V cordless sawzall is just as fast, can cut just as much, and at that price... I can buy enough batteries to go all day and then charge them at night when I get back.

But... I like their effort; perhaps battery technology will improve to the point that it's a viable option.

Yeah, they have to start somewhere. Heaven forbid a company just come out and make a completely useful product right off the bat.

No money in that! R&D first then marketing then sales then improvement then recall then R&D then.......
