Here is a documentary done on Andy.
His mother’s brother Charlie Stump inspired him to learn the banjo and also taught him how to build them. When I was 6, 7 and 8 I spent my summers and most weekends “working” for Uncle Charlie and Aunt Minnie doing yard work and odd jobs. Charlie tried his hardest to get me to learn banjo but I didn’t want any part of it, made my fingers bleed. I was just happy to watch him play while I picked weeds in his pride and joy strawberry patch. Charlie died while I was in school on Friday October 30, 1964. Didn’t learn about it till the next morning when I went back to spend the weekend. Kinda messed me up, tried not to get close to people after that. When the leaves are off the trees this time of year I can see Uncle Charlie and Aunt Minnie’s House from mine, I try not to look.
