Been away from my computer all day. Jay, you have been in my thoughts all day, glad to hear you are okay.

Just woke up, afraid to turn on the news. From reading here, wow, the west coast is getting hit too! It is hard to picture how this place can recover in the foreseeable future from this, just too massive a thing. Thanks for the kindly offer, Dennis, I don't know what is going on yet, but I think that at least we are ok, basically. Not much sleep last night, the cell phone was going off all the time with earthquake warnings, a couple seconds before an aftershock would come rolling through, or no sensation at all. A couple seconds ahead doesn't do much for you, barely time to dive under anything.

Going to check the bad news in the media, thanks again for the thoughts, much appreciated.

Sorry, not so good posting from my phone. Brookings Oregon.

As usual, the nuclear authority immediately came out with the standard ''nothing to worry about", but the cooling system has shut down in one of the reactors from electrical failure, and it is heating up. They are working on it they say, and have started evacuations.

Watching the news for some time this morning, it is just a unbelievable wipeout, there is no other way to describe it. Entire large areas of thickly populated districts near harbors and rivers are just mud and rubble now, or still under water. Few if anybody can be seen. Fires are burning everywhere like some futuristic scene from a war of the worlds, people just walking around in shock, and there are many who are still trapped, perhaps thousands. They are air lifting some kids and teachers from a grammar school, they can't get out due to thet entire immediate area being inundated. The damage covers a vast area many hundreds of kilometers from the center of the quake, and tsunamis are still moving in. A relentless onslaught from nature, man's ability to protect ourselves is nothing in comparison. Let's count our blessings that we are lucky to still be alive.
