Good question ,probabley not though .From what I gather they were intended to allow the engines to run at a lesser power level if the filter starts to clog ,else the things would run a tad rich otherwise . Most likely an EPA mandated item concerning emissions I would assume .

This I find somewhat surprising because the intended end user for this saw is professional usage .It would therefore make sense that a pro could certainly tell if they had a plugged filter one should think .
