Branch walking, how do you do it?

I was looking at the other thread and not understanding a thing about 3 in 1s for branch walking redirects and all that. So I’ll explain how I do it how I get out and how I get back. If I have a reasonably long walk out, I never or almost never do that walking backwards letting the rope out...

    Starting afresh.

Ok, So @WoodCutr has got off to a rocky start, he’s very young, maybe a bit highly strung, but clearly is doing the job and we all like to see a youngster come in and tell his story. So let’s restart the whole thing and forget the past arguments. I know he would like a go at resetting his...

What was the thread about the tree swing incident?

I can’t remember who it was, but someone was getting sued for a tree swing which somehow contributed to a woman breaking her back. What was the upshot of it? Tia. Mick

    Vermeer BC190XL chipper, thoughts, experiences?

https://www.agriaffaires.com/occasion/broyeur-de-branches/41433740/vermeer-bc190xl.html Now I’ve sold my smaller chipper I’m on the hunt for a smaller one. I was going to get a brand new one but it’s not set in stone. This is in the mix, 400 hours, 48hp diesel Kubota engine. Being a US built...

    201t / 210tc face off

Bear in mind there was a little bit of operator fluctuation, and my nephew got the upgraded 201 and the stock 201 mixed up in the vid. Also it jams at the end of one of them, but it wouldn’t have affected the result. All brand new chains. I was surprised how much better the TC was.

    Fixed grabs on loaders

I am in the market for a new grab for the loader, current one is twisted here and there, repairable and still usable, but, you know.. The rotator version of my knockabout is 5k and that’s a little more than I want to spend. So this is being offered at half the price. Not with a rotator but can...

    What3words.

Just discovered this, and downloaded the app, does anyone use it for locating clients or see any other uses/advantages? Pretty clever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What3words

    My road trip.

I’m off back to England later this morning, funeral of an old family friend, more out of respect for my BIL (his father) so no consolation needed. I decided to drive, as every now and then I like the feeling of distance, geography and a sea crossing. Meet some old friends, drink in a couple of...

    Thoughts on this welding please.

I’ve had a number of failed welds on my chipper, this is the most serious. It’s a plate that holds the second vertical anvil in place, those who are au fait with chippers will know what I’m talking about. Anyway the plate and the anvil (which I found) let go and went through the machine, bad...

    The good news/bad news thread.

Good news, my mate of 45 years (who?s also a tree guy) is coming to France for the weekend. Bad news, before they arrive I have to try a repair some concrete posts I broke after a schoolboy error felling some willows yesterday. The client’s a stickler and I suspect an insurance claim is in the...

Bandit 990 xp thinking of buying, any thoughts?

I?ve been disappointed with my chipper, it?s had a few build quality issues and I flirted with the idea of getting a big Yankee job as a kind of ?final chipper? They?re not often available second hand over here but this one has popped up, seems legit. It?s the 122 horse job, towable (just)...

What's your year been like, business wise?

The end of the year provides an opportunity to look back on a year's trading, assess and plan for 2018, sooo... I've had a pretty good one, 20% up on last year, solid employee seems happy, new loader paid for in full, consolidated my French clientele. From what I can garner a few others have...

Natural crotch rigging with Graham McMahon.

    Wheeled skidsteers.

http://www.tobroco.com/en/products/skid-steer-loaders/giant-sk-251-d/ Sooo. The search continues, having done some tests on my kubota tractor it appears that it lifts more than I imagined, at least 400kg no issue. This means that the sort of articulated wheeled loader I've been looking at it...

This used to be a tree workers forum.

    Stihl equivalent to 550xp

Silly question really, what's the Stihl PROFESSIONAL equivalent to the husky 550? I dropped a clanger a while ago and bought a 271, which is a semipro saw and was rubbish. I just sold it to a guy that works for me and its left a hole in my top shelf. I like to keep a range of both marques so I...

    Knot less rigging for cheapskates.

Forgive me if this is old hat and in common usage. I use a steel fixed eye Krab on the end of my bull rope for rigging, works well, nice and simple. The only drawback is getting the rope in and releasing the rope through the gate on the ground, with cold wet hands and big gloves the groundies...

Let's See Your Local Autumn Pics!

Following a thread on AT. Over here in France and in the Uk we're having a colorful autumn, can we see your pictures of where you live in autumn? I'll get some more tomorrow but for starters here's some Virginia Creeper in its autumn livery. I'm sure you can do better.....
