Remember the gas explosion in San Bruno, which resulted from a leaking PG&E gas main? The whole neighborhood was complaining to PG&E of smelling gas weeks before it happened. The company denied it. They even falsified records to cover their trail, but it all came out in the wash. They just plain F'd up. Paid dearly for it, too. Another damn company so damn big it can't even take care of its own matters the way the law is written.

But they did. In such matters with big companies denial gives you the time to come up with other lame excuses to stall the plaintiffs prosecution attorneys. As in the San Bruno case it took over 10 years to reach a settlement and many of the plaintiffs died in the meantime.

Do you remember where the propane tank was in relation to the basement?

I was told it was near the hatchway to an old basement. Not a raised hatch like you would see today with Bilco doors. It just followed the ground downhill to the lowest spot. Something like that happened at the Falk bearing factory some years ago. Leaking tank and it flowed into a building. Big explosion.

I call the gas company about twice a year when I smell gas out on a job or something. They are usually out in 15 min or less.

Jim, my dad had two pet skunks that he raised from pups. Their mother was road kill, found them beside her late one nite. Never had'em fixed.
