yea, you have to kind of dig around. the gist of it is that I asked if the site members supported this guy taking a grease bucket from an old salt tram.
One of the members who was on the trip got totally offended.

As it turns out he only was holding it up for a picture. But the caption under the pix says 'got it'.

Just more drama, really.

I think I am going to have to sign up over there! What a bunch of meglomaniacs!

"No frans, nothing was removed, it was just a stunt picture. We DO NOT make it a point to remove anything when we take these treks. We believe in conservation so the next hiker can enjoy the experiance."

How hard was that?

Dude reminds me of Ekka, let it go already. But no, we need to dig up dirt on everyone!

maybe i should go sign up and mess with him,
and show up at one of their hikes
touch everything and talk about salvage value
even bring the gps along and make entries....feed their paranoia
on 2nd thought
i dont think i have the patience
to tolerate non tree people

Frans, you only have 59 posts there. They haven't had enough time to understand the Frans 'vibe'. (sometimes off-putting but almost always well intentioned).

sometimes off putting, But almost always well intentioned
ahhh that's what it was,:|:
and here i thought that on occasions you were just being a wang:)

i think ive gotten off on the wrong foot a time or two with frans online and in a tree....maybe next time the wang part won't come into play like that again
is that the Frans vibe you mean?
i guess i gotta be a lil more accepting and frans a lil less wang ish, and then maybe there will be peace in all the lands...ok well maybe not, but in cali anyway

but i think were on our way to a better understanding,
hopefully i'll get to take you up on that climb offer frans, and we can come to that understanding,

hey , i didnt even swear, in an open forum, yeah me!!!

guy definately has an Ekka type of vibe. As to him removing artifacts, as queen Gertrude put it -'the lady doth protest to much methinks'

I couldn't see where you picked up that he was getting "testy". He appeared to be answering your enquiry in a judicious but polite way. Your response seemed to set the tone for complications, even though as you stated, your goal was to seek information.

Thanks everyone. And yes, woodworkingboy, I suspected I had a part in that.
Being raised by wolves, I often don't know the secret human handshake or code words. I just expect folks to read the words and not make assumptions.

As I read the thread I never thought he took the bucket, seemed he just went for a picture. At the same time, he seems like a jerk. Answer the question and be done, instead he has made it into a drama. On top of all that I found out Frans illegally climbs trees:O I'm pretty sure that he wasn't supposed to climb that structure also but thats just fuel for the fire:)

Well you asked, here is my thoughts on this:

It could have been handled with a bit more manors and respect. I read many posts from you and I see what you try to say here.
You had no bad intension in this, but the reaction you got is not surprising.
There are other way's to say things, other words to choose from and still get the response you look for.
A personal pm to start with, I think was a good idea.
If that is ignored then a post in thread could be in order...

They did not throw somersaults after your first post.

I do find it strange they except that you can remove objects like that "as long as you put them back and restore place for future adventurers".

I doubt you meant harm in this, it was just crazy wording... I know all there is to know about that!

As a general rule, you are ALWAYS out of line Frans. That's why we like you. :D

Hummm, ever been asked a question about your tree activities by someone totally clueless? I recently got one where this guy said 'hey why are you hacking on that tree'?

The question may seem 'out of line' but actually they have no knowledge of what your doing and just want information.

When you post on a public web forum you are bound to get such questions. To become 'offended' is, imo, immature at best.

I am the first to admit my mistakes, but this guy seems to be in a world of his own.

Do not sweat it Frans.
He is not without fault even though he thinks he is so high and mighty. Picking up and examining tools, grease buckets, climbing on the structures, opening and closing the salt bucket that has been hanging for 80 years or whatever. Is not leaving no trace, the things are disturbed from there resting place (or hanging place). Now what would have happened if when they opened the salt bucket that had been hanging for 80 years and the lid broke and fell of, what if the handle on the grease bucket broke when they picked it of the nail, or the timbers broke on the structure they were climbing would this not be vandalism. Not intentional mind you but the same result. Wait until someone falls and breaks a leg or a structure collapses on someone and they have to be rescued from there. No matter how well intentioned they would shut that area down from public access. They could have taken pictures of all these things without disturbing and handling them, so they are far from fault themselves. As the saying goes those that live in glass houses should not throw rocks. Just my thoughts on the matter....:)
