Stable braid is a good all around rope but a pure static line is the bomb for lifting and hanging whole trees.

Got it in today and used it to complete a job. Just in time!

Smaller tree but sure came in handy!

What about shock loading? How do you mitigate?

Somebody droptested IIRC XTC against Spectra in drop testing. XTC won, though the SWL was much higher on the Spectra (or whatever fancy static rope it was).

surely by cranking the grcs and lifting the limb/tree in question you're removing a lot of the shock...
often, if we crank too hard the piece will jump off the stem.

all depends.
limb removal.. yes. facecut then back cut. sometimes a mini porti on the butt to keep the swing down.

Dynasorb rope I found to be better than any stable braid rope. The rope runs alot better in grcs

When I set mine up with static to hang a whole tree we notch it towards the spar tree and crank it over until they are just about hung up in one another and cut it free very little or no shock load. A butt line can help with any wild swing you may encounter. This one was as near perfect as it gets no drop or swing just a dead hang off the kerf.

yep.
that's the ideal.
it isn't always ideal but often enough.
butt line really helps.

for big limbs on a house we'll get a block nice and high in the rigging tree then tie the working end to the fallen limb shy of the house.
we'll crank it to relieve as much weight as possible then start taking off the stuff on the roof.
when we're clear of the roof we'll let down the tip.
