14k trailer, Jack is going bad, the old one wasn't mounted with very heavy material. I'm losing faith in both the Jack and it's mounting so I bought a new one. Trying to decide if I should burn all the old stuff off and replace with more suitable material or lose the old Jack and burn the new one onto the outside of the trailer frame. Any thoughts?

I never did mind having the jack on the inside of the frame. You could make that as strong as you wish.

One nice thing about a jack mounted on the outside is that you can mount it with pins so you can take off or raise it for transport.

These are drop leg jacks so pretty efficient. Outside mounting makes the drop leg more accessible and will be easier to do but centered is more balanced and protected. Also not sure about a full length weld down the frame. I did it to the dump trailer I built a few years ago buttttt...

Inside with support cross pieces top and bottom is what I would want. Most important improvement is the drop leg you're moving to. That would help me in so many instances.

There is 2 pieces of angle at the back and one in the front, none are very beefy. Guess I'll make a visit to the scrap iron yard. middle it is. My wife recently made me scrap my iron pile, time to rebuild it

I hadn't inspected it very closely, the bottom piece of angle was never welded on :dur:
Any way, burned the new jack on today and sprayed a little paint while the metal was warm even though it was still below freezing outside
