Way better than severing the roots...lasts about three years. And yes that root buckled a 5 inch concrete sidewalk... people are ada and lawsuit crazy.... a half inch of abrupt grade change is suit bait... even though the city took over... people also want flat uniform...perfect dressed sidewalk to match the billion dollar house...

Thank God Ficus are so tough.... I really admire them.

Tree trunks or wood is like a piece of firewood made of drinking straws.... better to lose half the straws than all the straws...mind you there isn't much lateral torque on these trees as they are like 30' tall and mushroom shaped tucked down low in the buildings...clear from wind...

Here's one from this summer at my place. 15" oak, about 40' tall. Dropped it across the driveway, right between the magnolia and the linden tree. I first had to drop the twin oaks and pine on the other side of the driveway for a landing zone. No big deal as it gave me an excuse to drop more trees. The frik'in yard looks like a rain forest.

Yeah, I needed a good hinge. It had a lean to the left and it would have taken out the magnolia. I got it between the driveway light too. It's all in the hinge.

Now I look at it again you are correct.

When I was up the tree it reminded me of a fish fillet. Spine and bones after one fillet had been removed.

Found a pipe holding up a massive amount of pin oak today. It had cracks we could fit our hands in this morning, fresh heaving of the ground and sidewalk, and o lot of perfectly healthy foiliage and wood above 12 foot.

Dealt with a bunch of “privledged” people that were upset it was coming down till they saw the last cut. I think I’m gonna haul it home and build a sweet bonfire for trick or treat next week. I’m planning on setting it upright, stabilizing with greener logs around it, filling it with dry wood, and cutting out some holes for flames and air. Should be one heck of an attraction. Prolly should let FD know ahead of time

They used to use those in Mobile, Alabama -- wooden hollow logs for water mains. Saw one at the fire department museum
