The Official Random Video Thread!

I was thinking it could be fun to put something living inside the cockpit, but admittedly it would be a little sadistic. End up looking like the first cosmonauts that came down in Kazakhstan, after they located the capsules.

On that RC plane vid . . . how is the plane able to do that? Is it because of a big differential in weight to engine power? A real plane can't do anything like that, right? Is there such a thing as competitions with tricked-out planes and pilots that can handle all the G-forces? Also, how do they make the smoke?

It's pure power to weight. I can't think of a real prop plane that can do that, although some of the race planes, and even the P-51 Mustang can/could come close to hanging on the prop.

Sure; the Red Bull Air Races, for one. One of my pilot friends races.

The smoke comes from a pump that injects oil into the exhaust pipe (on some planes). Others use a heater to "burn" oil and create smoke in a separate stream.

Any idea how much oil would be used to burn in that vid? It really smoked a lot and went on for a long time.

Would the Reno Air races qualify for that? I went to that one about ten years ago, and I seem to remember them doing a lot of tricks.

So, as a pilot, if you had to choose between more instrumentation or more power, what would you do?

The planes I've seen only hold a couple of gallons; I don't thin kit really takes much to make a lot of smoke.

Reno... probably!

Tough call; it would depend on the situation. Assuming no lack of power otherwise, I'd take instrumentation. But I'm not racing, either.

This will get you in the Christmas spirit!

Poor fellow.

No, it ended the way it was supposed to.
Better for the Bisons that the wolves eat a skinny old one, than have to go after the calves or cows.

Thus is life, when you get too old to contribute in any other way, at least you can do your part by becoming food for the predators.
