Anyone remember what that thing was called? It was a throw weight that doubled as something that helped the line "hop" over tight crotches...

No, and no. Perhaps someday I'll have a need for it, but not so far. There can't be anything under it's drop zone that could be damaged from it. The inventor really screwed the pooch with THAT device.

What made you think of it?

Someone on facebook designed something similar. I just wanted them to know that they were headed down a possibly already travelled road.

Can I borrow yours for a coupla weeks? Just to try it out?

Thats the sign of a pro, hit your crotch the first time and amaze everyone!

I had thought about making something just like that aluminum "cone" like Landon and Tom but make it out of injection moulded plastic (ie cheap) however after meeting the Treepedo dude in Rhode Island I decided against it as he has a bunch of money invested and didnt want to sink his boat....

I bought one of those pullers at an electric supply store. Years ago, but it didn't cost but about $15. I have been brainstorming some kind of flexible guard for it. Funny you would post about it, as I have been thinking about it lately.

Right here, at 1:06. Isn't this exactly what landon made?...

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qyEkX29wBls?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qyEkX29wBls?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

You can only use it on trees w/o any targets whatsoever, like he was doing. I've used mine once. Every other occasion demanded a normal, soft throwbag so it wouldn't damage anything.

Landon's thing is only a sleeve.

you use your normal throwbag, get you line over your TIP, then you thread the sleeve over the end of your rope AFTER you put your cambium saver on the rope.

you then pull it over like normal with the exception of the sleeve over the end of the rope.

it basically is an in-tree skidding cone, protecting the end of the rope and making it snake thru tight crotches more easily. ;)

it is not part of the throwing process.

I played around with making one like that some years back. Not being able to turn anything but wood, I eventually gave it up.
I still think the idea is good, though.

Your right nick the "rope Transition Device" is the same as the other tool. Seems like the treepedo inventor didnt realize what invention he should be marketing. That is a way better idea than a $100 throwbag.

I still dig the Gatorade bottle-top trick, as far as pulling a rope, via throwline,

into a tree with rough bark or slight, tight crotch placement.

I carry a couple in the kit at all times.

I think it's great for installing your line, along with using it as a handle. It just ain't WAS for throwing, in most scenarios.
