That's good about not restricting air flow. I have an old 020 that the flock or whatever it is has half disappeared from the filter, so it is partially an open shot of air coming in. I've been running it that way for quite awhile, due to being half lazy to get a new filter, and half an experiment. It runs like a bat out of hell. Saws like unimpeded air flow.

I've been milling logs for benches in the castle park all day with the 880.
Tried the sock trick, and I must say it really makes a difference.

Just another day hanging out at the castle, eh?

I've got about 14 tanks through my new 395XP. I figure in another 100 or so, I'll check the filter to see if it's got any signs of dirt in it. Probably not.

Cut for two tanks with the 390xp in dead dry dusty wood yesterday. Pulled the top to look at the filter, clean as can be.

Sure not missing the stihl filter design here.

Have you tried any of the newer Stihls?
Not much difference in how they filter air from the Huskies, I believe.
I clean the filter on my 441C about every two weeks when I'm logging 8 hr days.

441 is the only air injected Stihl I have ran/owned.
It was great, but big/bulky compared to the Husky's.
My new 390xpg is physically smaller than the 441 or 046 I had.

Just chiming in here guys but... uhhh.... Has anyone recommended the Maxflow yet. Man, the white one (finer particulate) works like an absolute champ with filter oil. Lasts forever, and breathes better too.
