Springboards -- these DYI or standard design ??

Just acquired two springboards and I know near zilch about boards in general. Do these look like a commercially produced product or DYI? Anyone know what the end pieces are called - the nomenclature? The two pieces look so similar, it would be a fairly talented DYI build if that's the case. I have not found any photos showing ones like this.

Looks like yours was made from a leafspring.
 
It's an interesting pattern. I thought they needed to be round so you could tail them around. Cool either way.

The split in the end has me wondering if there's a purpose, Somewhat like the end of a prybar. Could this be a springboard and tool combo?
 
I guess that's just a quick and easy way to widen the part, without thinning it too much nor spending a good amount of time on the forge to make it pretty and sturdy.
