Springboards -- these DYI or standard design ??

Just acquired two springboards and I know near zilch about boards in general. Do these look like a commercially produced product or DYI? Anyone know what the end pieces are called - the nomenclature? The two pieces look so similar, it would be a fairly talented DYI build if that's the case. I have not found any photos showing ones like this.

Yes, the metal tip is called the shoe.

It's an interesting pattern. I thought they needed to be round so you could tail them around. Cool either way.

Back in the day the shoes were made by any number of local smiths. The fallers often picked their own boards, custom shaped and tapered. I never seen two exactly alike.

The split in the end has me wondering if there's a purpose, Somewhat like the end of a prybar. Could this be a springboard and tool combo?

I guess that's just a quick and easy way to widen the part, without thinning it too much nor spending a good amount of time on the forge to make it pretty and sturdy.

Better traction? Can't recall having ever seen a shoe split like that.

Could they be a competition board where a guy didn't need to tail the springboard around?
