I thought it was putting in a route for a skyline and would all be skidded to the landing. Especially at that size

Though it never did seem right to clear-cut a slope of young trees like that. Probably missing something in the bigger picture.

Looks like a planted slope for harvesting. But will we ever know....

If it was America, I would have thought a clearance for high tension wires. That or a ski slope.
