Sounds like that's the better option. Spendy valve but seems like some are on ebay. I can't always tell the size since there isn't much of a description.

I have some schedule 40 aluminum tube that is the right size. I'll need to get it threaded.

Yea, when I researching building one, I was seeing ~$100 for a valve. I may not have been looking in the right place. Add in all the other stuff and my time, it didn't make sense when I could get one <$200.

I think the sticker price when I bought mine was $225, maybe $250. I had coupons, so it came to $193/$205 with tax. I looked up my old email when build discussions started.

Wadding disks are a stiff, closed-cell packing foam. Prevents air leaking past the throwball so you get more range.

Ok, here's my homemade rendition. I had the schedule 40 tube and my local marine fabricator threaded it for me no charge. I've sent him plenty of work in the past.

The butterfly valve isn't something you buy at your local hardware store around here so I had to order it from Grainger, not cheap with shipping to Alaska.

I have some trees that I need to set some pull lines in coming up. Stay tuned for that.
Tell me about the wadding that some of you use.

Sights could easily be a picatinny rail attached to the tube with a holographic sight or similar.

For wadding I'd use chopped up old sheets, or a foam plug/sabot. I've never owned an APATA, but I used to build custom paintball artillery pieces, and I used neoprene foam to build sabots. Model them after a 12 gauge shot cup and they'll never be far from the launch point.

Yeah, I thought about that as well. I tried zip ties but they didn't work out.

Very smoove tucking the clamps in the wood. However, I think your grain orientation should go the other way so it doesn't split.

I've also since moved the handle and buttstock back a bit and it's a lot more ergonomic now.
