From tree work to the Amazon jungle
We worked the other day just down the street from some line clearance guys. Chatted with their foreman for a moment, he said they top out at $18-20/hr for climbers. Bet people don't stay long at that pay rate! For comparison, our city arbs pull in $18-25/hr. Then by chance an Amazon delivery driver pulled up and chatted with her for a moment. They get $15/hr to start and work 4 x 10s a week + OT if they want it. Just to put it all in perspective -- they have quite an easier go of it (by her account) and pull in decent wages. We're seeing 2 of our main competitors in town having workforce difficulties -- one drove by today with a sign on their truck that read "Now Hiring!" I'm sure ground crew people reconsider their line of work when they can run a delivery truck and operate at a much gentler pace for about the same money.
