Over the past 3-5 years we have seen a new evolution in rope climbing gear
Using two different motive powers, battery and gas engine
gas:
The Ropetek Wraptor http://www.ropetekwraptor.com/

By far the most economical unit making it possible for everyday people to have one

And the battery powered type:

www.atlasdevices.com
coming in at a whopping 25 grand (last I checked) sold mainly to military

and the power quick
http://www.powerquickinc.com/

I checked out their 'daily rental' section and it still seems like a very expensive product, especially compared to the Ropetek Wraptor

Sounds like the ropetek wraptor might be a good powered ascender to check out, great tool for arborists and tree climbers alike.

Having used this device a couple times now, I predict that it will have an impact in our industry similar to the chainsaw. It takes what would otherwise be a difficult job and makes it easy.

There are many areas of the country where bucket trucks just aren't practical for a large percentage of trees. And then you have areas where the trees average well over 100', much too tall for a bucket even if access isn't an issue. If our trees around here averaged more than 75', I'd already have a Ropetek Wraptor. Paul has been doing a great job at refining the prototypes and I'm looking forward to seeing the production models when they come out.

ps, if you use the terms ropetek wraptor, motorized ascender, tree climbing etc it would behoove Google to notice eh. :D

Seems the PowerQuick isn't priced attractively, either:

What's the selling price of the PQ?

PowerQuick
That depends on which version you are interested in. What is your potential use?

Then you want a PQ 500. I can give you a base kit with 2 batteries at our small business discount of $8,610. Normal retail is $10,042. That includes 2 batteries and the custom travel case.

Netree, I think you just plugged your own company, new england tree service, is that true netree?
ropetek wraptor

I'm sure replacement batteries are available for a 'nominal' fee... whatever that's supposed to mean.

I would have loved to have a powered acender in Elison cave.

Check out these sweet photos , this a few mins from my place.
And fantastic is just one of the drops.
I recon its better to acend by hand tho as the noise .
In rescues what we do is fill a haul bag with water and rig a pulley, as soon as the haul bag is heavier than the victim guess what happens ?

Dark, I think, but I could be wrong, you need to include photos in your post. Otherwise we can't see them :P

I forgot to mention the GRCS.

Able to raise and lower the climber, plus do a multiple of different lifting and raising jobs associated with the tree industry and other industries as well.
(once I winched a dead horse out of a stall and into a horse trailer, I have also winched stuck vehicles out of the mud with it).

The GRCS comes in at a price point comparable to the wraptor, but can do so much more......

-just food for thought for the person outfitting their tree company-

Having used neither (GRCS or Wraptor) my opinion doesn't really mean squat. But! It would appear to me anyways that while the GRCS can raise someone the Ropetek Wraptor will do it much more efficiently like with one less person for instance. Not to mention set-up and breakdown time.

Yeah, the thing about controlling your own ascent can be a real big deal for most climbers. I'm sorry, but I'm not comfortable tying into a system and letting some groundie winch me up to the top of a tree with me hollering at him to stop or slow down every time I encounter an obstacle. That makes about as much sense as holding a chainsaw with somebody else controlling the throttle.

If a crane can pull you up and into a tie off spot through limbs, not being within ear shot, often, then it seems like groundies should be able to pull you up easily enough, if paying attention. No experience with getting pulled up by groundies, other than "you can do it".

A crane can also swing you out, which can be a big advantage, and also drop you down into the crown.

Brian had it pegged for my neck of the woods... Ropetek Raptor would put me into trees I can't get a bucket to. And I am not getting any younger. So it should lengthen my time in the trees :D

Just red through this thread. OK so just some insight here. So yes at $2500 the Ropetek Wraptor seems like a good deal in comparison to $8600 and $25000 competition. However the competition has product liability insurance which is factored into the price. Ropetek will be eligible for insurance in February as we sold our first unit to Nobivy last feb. Our insurance costs will then be reflected in the consumers price. Might not be as affordable next year..........:(

All Im saying is that the Ropetek Wraptor costs $2500 for now. Who knows what the insurance will be per unit as they wont even quote me. There has to be a reason that the next comparable unit is $8600:?

I for one would love to keep them affordable but I cannt remain uninsured forever as you all know its only a matter of time till some cot cucker lawyer tries to get a piece..... Plus I cannt sell through venders till I have insurance
