Freaking awesome day on the water yesterday. We fished the Annual Habitat for Humanity Mother's Day Tournament again this year. Our team took 2nd and 4th place. John took fourth with a 34.2 dolphin missing third place by 2 ounces. We were in the money though hahaha $ 5,500.00 smackaroos. So, once again, we fished for free and walked away with some cash.
He would love that!!! There is another tournament in June. Expensive to get in and risky because it is a winner take all tournament. $ 30,000.00 grand at stake. I don't think we are up for that gamble.
Oh yeah, one of the items on John's Bucket List has been checked. We went out to target Yellow Fin Tuna, and scored big time. It was a long, long day with 6 foot seas in 24' boat but patience payed off. In the last 45 minutes of fishing, John boated a 18 lb, and a 75 lb Yellow Fin. He will eat tuna all week. HA
Did you see all the blood on John's face, even on his glasses? hahhaha he would not wash it off till we got back to the house. He was so stoked. It is all about knowing a good captain, a captain that loves to fish. Capt. Tweety was so excited he put John on that fish. He was determined to see that fish in the box.
Taking a yellowfin on relatively light tackle is to experience one of the most challenging sport fishing prizes on the water. I understand completely why John was so pumped.
Captain's meeting tonight. We are fishing the Annual Habitat Mothers Day Tournament again this year. The tournament is based in Marathon but we are fishing out of Islamorada with Capt. Greg Eklund.
