This 505 83cc just got scratched off the poulan list. Nice knowing ya but I got to make some room. All I can say is I'm not married to any chainsaw. :lol:

The 475 was a pretty good saw for bushlin in Southeast Alaska if a guy was in medium to smaller size timber. I knew several guys that had them juiced up and they cut real good. That was before the 460 Stihl and they filled a good niche.
Guess it depends on which one you can get parts for.
 
Running the green 505 with 24" Sat at a gtg (poulan ones only came in yellow and jonsered ones red, partner ones yellow). But I wanted a lime green one. :D

Also ran it in a bigger log with bar buried. Just started 3rd tank and she is feeling good in the cuts.

Dad called and told me I lost some pines 18" and a small poplar. 1 pine almost took out the cow shed. No pics to busy. Small poplar blocking path to bigger pine up on hill. No pic. 18" pine on hill and seasoned black oak 18" pics below.
Cool wild flower I seen while taken break and a buddy on the oak log.

It may not handle like a 440 372 but out cuts them in bucking cuts stock to stock. I love this dang PP445 70.7cc poulan in the cuts.

Little heavier then the other 2 PHO at 15lb 7oz.

I have it's bigger brothers 77cc 83cc in single transfers but I love the quad transfers of the 71cc.

The 365 is with the pine pics. The 445 is black oak pic. Dad cooking in the smoker with the oak. Yes that chicken was gooooood.

Dad ran this 3300 for 21 years and has only needed fuel, impulse lines in past. Well now it needed all 4 av's and a NLA intake boot. I hooked him up with all new AV's and used boot I had on hand.

Stihl 460 rescue handle was a idea I had to help save his hands from the itty bitty oem 2 finger handle that was tearing up his bad hand.

Feels nice to be able to give back to dad for all his help he has given me in the past.

I tried one of those big handles on my 066... wound up going back to the original. It was just to dang big and bulky!
 
He dont have no choice now if he wants to get it started. Needs full hand.
 
I was working on a MS250 with that easy start system on it. If they could adapt that option to lets say up to pro grade 60cc saws and down I could see older folks buying them. Maybe not a big market though.

So far out of the start assist stuff I have seen and used the stihl had been the best and so easy to use IMO. I could pull the rope 1" at a time till I got it wound up and then it would spin itself to start.
 
Butch if you try to start the way we are used to it will drive you batty.

Have to learn to use it on the stihl. It is so easy on you, if you had shoulder, hand etc troubles. Little pulls at a time works to wound up the stihls. Unlike some of the others that just make it easier to pull at a given point.
 
I have the MS 250 with the easy start. My hired man cant start the dang thing, you are just loading the spring slowly, not jerking the guts out of it! I have thought the same thing, about adapting the easy start system to more saws. My dad has ruined shoulders and he can start my MS 250.

It is a good saw.

BTW, what is wrong with Poulans?

If you look back through the thread you will see nothing is wrong with them.


A lot of parts going NLA now days. Then again all makers are doing that to try and get us to update and quit rebuilding our stuff IMO.
 
I find the trend towards throw away items appalling. How can a company sell a rebuilt alternator for 50 bucks? Is it a loss-leader? You cant buy rebuild kits for hardly anything anymore. Especially if it is more than twenty minutes old. I would love to have a VAT-40 and a growler, but I suppose I could not rebuild stuff for less than I can buy it re-man from NAPA.

I used to live in Great Falls 83-85. Used to bracket race in Lewistown. Hang out in Missoula.
 
Since I couldnt find a husky 2100 thread and it is kin to poulan. :P

Owner runs a 24" and 42" on the 99cc . Owner fiddled with it for about a month. Stated no power in the cut then dies. Took me 2 days about 6 hrs total to fix but she pulls in the cut now. Several different things compounded to the problem. Was like a mission of search fix and onto next mission.

I tested with his 24" and then put my 16" on it to play some more.

Dont own a stihl and had this bar come in on trades. So I figured out a use for it for now 84DL 050 3/8. Just used springs over bar studs to fit inside bar space area.
But would prefer the D009 mount bar.

First visit to this post. Right off the bat I noticed your work shop is too clean.

Those old top handled Poulans 'super 23-24' something like that-- anyway, they were damn good saws up in a tree. And they were cheap.
 
I bought this saw recently on a impulse buy. Reason why= I had raced alky/nitro 181 in past and wondered how one ran stock. Just so happen to come across a nice running stock 181SE thin ring.

81cc for a total of $145 PHO so far. Not bad ;)

Glad you think so. Feel like I am running out of space in it already and it is like 48x32or36 cant remember.

2 days couple more up and running.

Craftsman 3.0 49cc that hasnt run in years. Impulse black, tank vent nearest carb and fuel line rear.

3450 54cc Someone in TN cobbled this ole boy. They put a new looking 3450 piston in backward to start. That fubarred it over time (beat or wore locating ring pin and allowed ring to go 360 degree around piston) . IMO the reason for the scuffs on it.

Intake boot had 2 tears at mounting flange ears and a rip on top under clamp and under bottom of boot under clamp. Also more reasons for scuffing piston.

Then this saw might have been one of those with carb issues as it had a smaller HDA 49 carb on it from the earlier saws.

3450 Finished the 54cc to a 60cc conversion today since it was raining out. Put the bigger oem carb on, new intake boot, impulse line, bigger then oem fuel line.
