A real pretty day here in northwestern Oregon today. Snapped a couple of pics as I went about my rounds this morning.

It's good to have a hard-to-miss visual reminder that you are utterly insignificant. Otherwise we'd have to wait until it got dark so we could see the stars.

... orrrrr, have some teenagers. :what:

Nice ones B.

The only good thing about being a day late for flip-fest, was that we got lost and inadvertently took the route around the Hood. Won't soon forget it. Safety Sid is in the shop, and we're supposed to have the big meeting tomorrow. I want to flash your credentials around, and see if I can't prompt him to talk to some people so that we cld hire you to come on up to show us how and why this PNW work is done the way it is. I probably don't have a chance--but still.

I've driven right underneath it and still have really seen it in person. Is Mt. Hood ever hikeable or is it always a mountaineering endeavor?

Beautiful, B! We tried soooo hard to get a good pic of it while at the Flipfest but it just wouldn't show it's pretty face. What a gorgeous mountain!

Burnham,
I drove a group of friends from Portland out to the X-Dog Events Mt Hood Scramble (a 7 mile cross country run/race) on Sunday morning.
It was beautifully sunny and clear.
Took this shot from the Meadows parking lot.

Heck of a mountain, Burnham.

If you ever get tired of it, just ship it over to me. I'd love to have that in my backyard:)

Don't hold your breath, Stig. Could be a long time coming :).

How about a report on you visit to the big trees, and all the rest of your recent visit here?

Nice shot, Pat. How long are you going to be around these parts?

Burnham,
Sadly Sunday was my last day.
Once again I am a veritable flatlander back here in Delaware where the highest elevation is the Ebright Azimuth - 448 feet.
Climate change sea level change could eradicate 90% of Delaware with a very small increase. then I will surely be looking at real estate in your fine state.
I will try to get a link to my pics from the Redwoods up soon.

Looking forward to it, Pat...I saw in another thread that you'd done some traveling around while out here on the left coast. Good idea to take advantage of the chance.

Hey B!

Talked to Safety Sid today. (Tried to p.m. ya regarding this stuff but it said your messages were full or something. Said you have to clear stuff out or something.) Anyway, the guy was AMAZINGLY receptive. He said that one of the reasons that we climbers in the NW have to comply with every whim that our East Coast Litigation Specialists spit out at us is because we've only go like two guys on the ANSI board west of the Mississippi. He said he'd be really interested to talk to you. We'll work out something so I can give you his contact info.

If you decide you'd rather not, I perfectly understand.:)

I thoroughly enjoyed extending my trip. As we drove out to the East side of Mt Hood I clearly remembered the red International Harvester pickup with the logger and his Irish Setter that picked me up on Rte 26 and drove me through the snow that was falling as I hitchhiked through the area back in 1974.

They are doing construction on the road up to the meadows on the east side, and the cross country scramble/trail run went through some raw red mud areas. The 250 contestants did something like 1800 ft of elevation change and seven miles and the leaders finished in just about an hours time. One fellow ran in a three piece suit while carrying a stuffed monkey - takes all kinds!
My friends were slower and less mud-encrusted:

I cleared some space, Jed, sorry your message got rejected.

I'd be happy to talk to the fellow. First, lay out for me exactly what your issues are and how you'd like to see them resolved if it all went to your satisfaction. Let's see if there is a logical approach that fits between your position and theirs. Assuming so, I'll either give a call, or take one, as seems appropriate.
