I get the difference between landowner/pro saws, and as everything in life you pays your money and makes your choice. But what baffled me with a brand new ms 250, was the incredible compression to get it going, and then you'd sit it down and watch it absolutely race the chain at idle, then immediately die as soon as you dared try to throttle it up.It was embarrassing to take to a job really.Couldnt get it to idle reliably or run, sent it back to the dealer came back the same.Nearly gave up on it in the end,but bought a cheap and nasty chinese carb off fleabay, which makes it useable. With my venerable 038 I seem to remember it was stickered as a 'farm boss'-i.e. not pro,but thats a saw thats never let me down and will work its guts out for you all day long in spite of being 35 odd years old.So it seems eminently reasonable to deduce we see a certain amount of degradation and dumbing down in quality control from major brands just like in other arenas too-i.e.-cars!

A lot of pros would disagree with your characterization of the 038 as "not a pro saw". This one does, for sure :).

Cars...hmm. To me they are better than ever.

391 was more an impulse buy because it was cheap, ought to put it up on Craigslist or something. It mostly hangs on it's hook and looks shiny. The 361, 036 pro, and even antique-ish 034av are my go to ~60cc.

Yep,I totally agree with you,its a fine saw(the old 038 saw),but it wasn't sold as a pro saw back in the day.So when you buy a modern ms 250-again not sold as a pro saw,you kind of hope for the same.....As to cars, well, lets not go there.Chinese/korean brands give you a 7 year warranty!!Prestige brands like vw/audi/bmw give you three years tops.....its not a good look.

My non pro go to is the Echo 590. I consider it a throw away. The guys on the ground are hard on stuff. I can't justify a pro saw except for myself. I am basically the faller/ climber for my crew. Same saw pro numbers would be the 600 or 620.
The 620 sports a 3/4 wrap and they have metal sprocket covers. 590, 1/2 wrap and plastics cover.
You can double dawg the 620. Be my next midsaw purchase. They have a sale up here about every year on echo and I have some points building on my CC

Then again, stalking around as your bmw burns to the ground on the motorway,as several Hyundai owners wave gaily at you,and due to your feeling of being effed up your ass (again),aint gonna get you a huge amount of sympathy either.

What the hell are you talking about? Are you just trying to stir shit for no other reason than to stir shit? I'm done with your foolishness. You'll be gone in a week or two anyway, after you get bored here and decide to go infect another forum. Maybe Facebook might be a better fit for you.

Here's a suggestion: don't say anything until you have something very valuable to contribute to the topic at hand. It can be fact, technical, or humor, but really think before you speak. Its a good habit to get into. Then, you'll pick up on what to say and when and not seem so out of place or rub people the wrong way, which may happen anyway. Its to easy to blurt out every random though the instant it comes to you. 15 minutes later it might not seem like the smartest thing to have said.

Isn't there some saying about how you can't sound foolish if you don't say anything?

I hope, Silvadavid, you continue to contribute, just slow down and clean up your posts. ;)

Wow, cheers for your welcoming posts to my first visits to 'your' forum. Most peeps have been reasonably welcoming/forgiving to me.Butch+stig have been decent, and from your comments,I gather you regard me as the lowest of the low,as I do other things apart from trees-ponds/patios/design,landscaping/fencing/dry stone walking etc,you may pride yourself on being a 'specialist',others unkinder than me may suggest you have what I was taught in college is regarded as a narrow skillset.I would just say-chill man-and keep an open mind, I'm sure you know loads more than me.Diversity is good,a narrow mind is a limiting thing...

Sorry mate, I'm not trying to be antsty, but between the trees, I'm being trampled by dinosaurs, I've been working in this sector for 38 years, and I like to think I've learned a bit along the way.Its a shame if you try to express an opinion, someone jumps down your neck-generally,I post in humour, but some peeps dont 'get it',Saying that,Its an intwresting forum and Butch seems a good guy,but there's a 'I am holier than you'crew too.Which seems a shame re:attracting new members.

Ok, whatever..

Play the “I’m a new member, indluge me” card if you like.

Or just get on with it, join in with the cut and thrust.

No worries mate,my skin is old and leathery,it will take much more than an old bloke with obvious pile issues to phase me 😏And no-that IS NOT aimed at you to be clear, have a good one, cheers!

Cheers Butch, I'm sticking with it,what is life if you can't rile people with big chainsaws!?😀

If you're jesting, a smiley emoji goes a looong way, especially if new.

I make a lot of deadpan jokes that people miss. Happens.

We don't miss them, we just don't find them to be funny, so we ignore them.:P

I'll stick with the former story. :P

I'm talking IRL.

Here, due to things "lost in text-lation" without intonation, pacing, facial expression, I am a bit more straightforward.
