also these days i favor the 5:1 pulley system, sailing winch or 1,8 t petrol capstan winch to avoid the wire rope that has so much character. interesting that you all use the masdaam, i dont like the looks of it :)
 
Yes, a bit odd looking, on the weak side. It has to be used with caution, of course in the range of its capability (the real one in my view - 880lbs, not the claimed one, too optimistic for my taste). Don't ask it too much, but it can still do some impressive work. In doubt, I go for my next one at 1,6 ton, a continuous in line rope puller.

It's also cheap! I've run rope through it that costs more than the puller did.
 
Not so cheap here, at least twice as much due to the import thing. But still, it's way less than the other pullers.
