Can anyone help me ID what's going on with this ornamental cherry? Tree looks otherwise healthy, except for this brown leaf die-back.

Snip the browned tips off, put them in a gallon zip bag, and take it to your county ag pathology lab for testing.

Our ag path lab provides this service for free. Takes about a week.

Looks a lot like the bacterial fireblight that messes up so many ornamental pears here in SoCal.

Thanks, guys. Definitely looks like fire blight. Now I'm looking for what can be done. We have this on two of our pear trees at home. Jomo, we have an apricot with that gummosis. Fruit is plentiful and delicious, but the bark looks terrible!

I've found that it impresses clients no end when you supply them with fact based pathology reports as confirmation of exactly what's messin with their trees, signed by a PhD pathologist.

It's a fact based gold standard worth doing, even done at your expense IME.

My Marvin pruner's held up remarkably well to bleach solution submersion!

I do believe you nailed it Rog!

Good eye matey!

Now we need some lab confirmation and fungicides!

Yes, they sure look similar. It looks a tad more like blight, but just from the pics I have seen. I see brown rot is on the label for Clearys 3336.
