Jack back weighted dead oak?

How can one determine whether wedges will be sufficient or a jack will be needed on say a 48”dbh conifer?

It depends on the height of the tree as well as the amount of back lean it has.

Thank you @stikine. Now that you post that I think I have seen similar before. Probably have a tab saved somewhere 🤦🏻‍♂️. Or maybe it’s in FGTW

How about force vs. distance of movement?

You can manipulate the segment length by choosing either a shallow or deeper undercut. Of course that will either make wedging easier or harder depending on which way you choose.

Yes, @Burnham and I discussed it before. More undercutting, under the center of gravity sooner, but less wedge leverage. On this back weighted oak, more undercut and lots of wedges made it easier than I expected.
