I am running Redmax full syn it has been good to me for a few years now and it is made to JASO standards, which one I am not sure. IMO most quality branded mixes and good to go and the marketing is just marketing.

I use this....http://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-TC-W3-Outboard-2-Cycle-Oil-1-Gallon/16795065. Been running it for over 10 years, no problems whatsoever. I mix 4 ounces to a gallon for a ratio of 32:1, a little more oil in hot weather, maybe 24:1. I can crank 'em up and not worry about ruining them.

What lots of folks don't consider...not everybody makes oil. Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, Napa, Walmart, Kmart...nearly everybody has a house brand of oil, but they didn't make it. Somebody else did and just put their name on it. I don't figure Stihl or Husqvarna manufacture oil.

It's unlikely they do manufacture their own oil although it may be custom blended to their specifications .

I have no idea why but from my perspective Husqvarna brand oils and the like are higher priced that Stihl .They are sold at Lowes TSC etc. along with certain "house brands " .More so often it seems Stihl brand stuff sells cheaper than these house brands from time to time .Highly unusual for Stihl to be cheaper on anything .

According to that link I posted and refering to what Rotax said about mix oils .In their perspective regarding modern mix oils of today there is no really "bad " oil .So from that if it means anything it's more towards a personal preference .--which I've maintained all along;)

Just a note, make sure to use a 2 cycle oil for air cooled motors if buying out of a box store. Boat 2 cycle is not made for the operating temps of the air cooled motors.

The MSDS sheet will tell you who blends the oil most times.

Al did you get yourself pulled into another oil thread. ;)

Yeah it happens all the time .I did refrain from suggesting used motor oil at 10 to one ratio though .

Might work though .The screen and filter would catch the garbage in the oil and it would be a dandy mosquito fogger as well .Lawdy I hope nobody takes my bull chit seriously .

This right here is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! Period! There is a huge difference between air cooled and water cooled two stroke mix!
As for me, I've used the cheapie WalMart Weedeater mix, TSC house brand, Shindiawa ONE lube, Husky and Stil mixes, never had a problem with any of them!
I've settled with Royal Purple synthetic, every time I've taken a muffler or a jug off since using it the piston is always nice and slimy with oil and that makes me happy! But I doubt there's a spitting bit of difference between it and the Stihl synthetic mix! I just know this stuff works so I continue to use it! I certainly can't prove in any way that synthetic is any better than the average stuff you can buy! I've never had a problem with either! So find something you can get easily and readily and run it!

I use vegetable oil for everything. Bar oil,mix in the gas,in my truck etc.....
The fact you can cook with it is an added plus.
55 gallon drum is the best way to buy it!

The biggest thing about it, that pleases me most is just how much greener the environment around me is.
Used to get bent pondering just what oil I should use.
But now I not only sleep in peace, knowing I am sticking it to Big Oil, I feel much younger also.

If every body would just use vegetable the world we live in could & would be a much better place!

I don't think that's a valid arguement although it is a topic often discussed .

A plated cylinder by it's very nature is impervious to oil penetration as oppossed to cast iron which absorbs oil to a point .That said in my mind I'm not certain you can even glaze a plated cylinder as it's already slick as snot on a door knob .

Jay, I started looking around the shop yesterday and found about half of our oil products have that Japanese rating on it. It turns out that our Trufuel has a higher rating than the AMSOIL Saber that we have been using.

RiverRat, remind me of your name again, please.

What mix ratio do you use in gas?

Thanks.

Just yesterday on the news, Fox of all places, they had a short story about these divers saving a sea turtle from a fisherman's net. A single sea turtle being saved makes national news...? The worlds gone bat chit crazy!

Ya know whats even crazier? That folks cant understand if we would just use more vegtable oil in our cars, trucks, boats & saws we would very quickly become a smog & pollutant free place. I might add, in short order.
We wouldnt be wasting our time saving single sea turtles either.Using vegtable oil Wed be saving all of them not some single dumb one caught in a net.

OH! Regarding my mix ratio. Whats really nutz you will find it doesnt matter. Because after using veggy oil in your saws, real shortly youll be joining the rest of all us greenies in our Pissed off Peace!

Uh... K.

It'll take more than usin' veggie oil to save the planet amigo. :) Usin' a cookin' oil that was not designed for use in OPE is just silly if you ask me. But hells bells... it's your equipment Jeff. Knock yourself out.

Stig, with not only the language barrier but also being from another country you do amaze me how well you catch so many things here!

Your a right fart smellow!

:D

Even though I run veggie oil in my saws. ( Required when working State forests, here)

Some years back I did a few jobs removing fallen trees from streams to help improve salmon habitat. We had to use biodegradeable bar oil... I used the Sihl bio-oil. Worked just snazzy...
