June 7th,8th we will be having a test setup/run-through for the Jamboree Climbing Competition Series. We will be setting up 4 different masters-esque tree climbing challenges to test out the format.
Do you want to help, climb, hangout, and maybe have a few beers after? Get a hold of me!

Two questions:

So in regards to the Jamboree Climbing Comp the idea has been raised to eliminate the whole fake tree/hazard inspection portion.
Does it make sense for a competitor to run around in circles reciting off a bunch of list items that they aren't really evaluating?
Would it make more sense to go through hazard/jobsite assessment ahead of time, as a group during the walk through? Allow both volunteers and participants to actually look at the individual site/trees and discuss potential hazards, how to identify them, mitigate risk etc?

This would allow the competitors to evaluate the trees they are climbing in a low pressure environment. Additionally then the timed part of the climbing competition would be entirely focused on the climbing.
Gear could be in the ring and time begins when the competitor enters. They walk in and get straight to business.

Second:

How much should we charge for this. I want to make it a smash up huge event. Its two days long so I want to cater 6 meals, good food too, not crap. Big tent to camp under. Entertainment, etc. Huge prize packages for everyone involved.

Im thinking $200, Max 30 competitors.

Treestuff Jamboree Climbing Comp Update/SIGNUP LINK:

Throwline: IN

Subjective/interpretive scoring: OUT

Each tree will now be officiated by ONE In-Tree-Offical/Technician

Scores will be recorded by fellow competitors. Deductions are definitive, there are no bonus or discretionary points. This lowers the amount of necessary volunteers enormously.

This comp is going to be long. It will be two full days. Competitors might want to take off Monday, it will run late Sunday night.

Volunteers: I need 8 In-Tree-Officials You must have climbing skills and the ability to rescue another climber. We will be taking care of our volunteers (AKA the hookup). Please contact me immediately

CHARITY CHALLENGES: There will be, at the least Throw-Ball and Open Ascent challenges. These will be 50/50 pay to play style competitions. Anyone can compete for $5-10 per attempt/run and the winner/first to complete/etc will win 50% of the pot while the remaining 50% goes to a chosen charity. Tree Stuff will start the pots with $250-500 each.

This comp is going to be expensive. We will provide between 4 and 6 catered meals over 2 days, live music and other forms of entertainment. There will be guaranteed merchandise packages for every competitor estimated value $200-$300. There will be additional prizes for the winner, top placers, spirit of the competition, etc.

We will be offering various training opportunities, demos, etc over both days.

Limited run Luke Dunlevy Signature T-shirt. Unique and limited to participants only (competitors/officials.

Limited run TreeStuff Sticker (hopefully?)
