What really sucks in your ear-a hot spark from cutting or welding. It has only happened to me once, but it sounds like your eardrum is in a deep fryer. I bet Steve knows about it. Others too.

I keep the paper and plugs in a little plastic bag (think quarter-bag), and I have a slot for the pen.
Some of my pocket-shirts have closure, some don't. I used to swear about no closure, but now I don't mind. I guess I have just gotten used to it, and don't bend over that far, instead I bend at the knee.
I also get soaked in sweat, thus the plastic bag for plugs and small scrap-o-paper. Works great!
