The hard part is I barely have time to read. Oh well, I have six stumps to grind in Milwaukee so about four hours road time should get me started on the audio set.

ISA cert.....is it worth it?

I asked this same question on "another site" and was very discouraged with the vague answers I got. :slam2:
Is it worth it if I'm cutting part time.....??? :dontknow:

I have been studying to take the test for a couple of months and feel I am almost ready. Although I must admit the only reason I am doing it is to get a raise at work! There is valuable information in the study guide and on one hand I feel like the ISA is a good thing. On the other hand it seems to be a money grubbing institution, like the TCIA. A lot of the info in the study guide seems a bit dated and other stuff is pretty vague. I have worked with certified guys that didn't know their a$$ from a hole in the ground who simply regurgitated a bunch of info from the study guide. Ethics, morality and intention are a whole lot more important than paying into the ISA. With that being said, wish me luck on the test cuz I need a raise!

It is always worth learning more, setting goals and meeting them IMO

Thanks for the response, doing a job to the very highest standard is always my goal, every time. Maybe it's time to get "the guide".....;)

Randy, are you finding much pruning and plant health care work in your area?

Pretty much everything I'm doing is take downs, just a few prunings.

Maybe It's from what I read and the responses I received on the "other sites" but I get an overwhelming sense
that anyone doing tree work that doesn't have some kind of certification is a hack. Hearing that word makes me cringe. :(
One word I never want attached to any work I ever do.

Being a CA is more helpful in the tree care biz. A lot of people will go for the cheapest, dependable price on takedowns.

If you have a pruning/ phc/ tree evaluation market segment, that is where a CA will help more.
