Irma watch

She and John, and all their people, need to be gone from the islands.

Some of us old school born and bred Floridians have been saying for many decades that the best thing for the Keys would be a bad 'cane...scrub all the built up crap off the map there and start over with some better wisdom. But I know that would hurt so many people so badly...
I'm sure V and her bunch are ready to roll. Looks like it could well be one of those clean the slate storms Mr. B., but for their sake, I hope not. Going to be some long days for power and tree crews regardless.

Who ever said that needs to STFU

We are all prepared to leave, but working today. Trimming a coconut palm for my daughter and depending on the diesel fuel situation will continue through out the day.

The gas tankers are being escorted by Highway Patrol which in my opinion is awesome.

We have lived here for 20 plus years, right down hurricane alley, so believe me we take them all seriously and leave at the appropriated time.

I'll keep you posted, hopefully.

I remember one storm, we could not get on line for what seemed like months, but of course it was only weeks.

Yes cool link!
Virginia and Brian, and any other Floridians...praying that you get through safely. Its pointless saying without damage as a storm that strong is going to do what it wants.
100mph is bearable, even 120 is scary but OK, 160-180, that's just insane. The increase in wind pressure is exponential as mph increases, so it's not just double its way more. Not much will withstand it for an extended peopiod sadly.

Paul Didier (swingdude) is in the Bahamas, they'll be seeing it too.

The projected track keeps getting shifted eastward. Now it's going to go up the east coast, which keeps the worst winds out to sea.

Things ain't been real joyful at work this week...boss & wife have a place they Winter on the east coast near Miami...they think the storm surge will wipe it out if it goes that way...they've been stressing a lot about spending the winter up here.

They should be happy to have a second home to live in. All those people who's live are about to be turned upside down and ripped apart, they are the ones to be stressing. friggin' people stressing about loosing their second home, please.
Not directed at you BTW just making a statement.

I get those calls when we have fires. Poor bastards can't seem to Google shat or read a map....
Is it near my house???
Dann phone went off all during fair. Could not shut it off because I was keeping in touch with my parents about evac orders.

I got a dozen calls today from people wanting me to come cut something because they were afraid of the storm. Sorry, I'm not going to butcher trees because some idiot is afraid and panicked. If it wasn't an emergency last week then it's not an emergency this week. And I'm not going to double my rates and charge people $$$ to cater to their fears. I told every one of them to call me after the storm, and one even told me he would try to get his neighbor to cut his tree for him. Fine, just be sure to have 911 on standby.

Heck, I'd go make some money.

You don't have to accept every job!

Just the ones you feel morally content with. ;)

I wasn't morally content with any of them just from what they were asking me to do. If I wanted to butcher trees simply because they were near a target then I'd be busy cutting down all the trees in my own yard. Just no.

Those homeowners are going to want hack and slash. Nothing else will please them. I stand behind Brian on this one. What he will want to do proper will be fair removed from their request.

Brian has the right of it...hell, a tree that damages a house might be from a block away in that kind of wind.

Yeah, pretty much my attitude while I listen to them, not just because of the second home thing though...those who choose to live in a dangerous place plagued by natural disasters choose to take the chance that something catastrophic might happen at any time...it's a choice...they've made their own bed...
