Its hard to test with accurate results. Measuring and checking sparks will give you a hint, but thats about it.
The electronic's inside can be broken. Then you get fine spark at wrong place in rotasion.
Make sure its very well grounded when testing or you can cook it.
Make sure its shorted out well if you turn over saw without plug or it can go bad as well.
When I test, I put a new, correct and tested plug in and a squirt of fuel in air filter. If it makes noises then, chances are good its ok, if not I start looking for issues.
