Not everyone gets a shot in the arm along the way. Also anyone who understands investing and taxes will see the benefit of debt.

My old man put me at a disadvantage by hammering into me for years about how debt was completely unacceptable regardless of the circumstances. He never explained the difference between consumer debt and capital debt, just that it was all bad. I guess he never figured I was smart enough to understand the difference. The only times I ever got ahead and made more money was when I borrowed money to invest in my future. If I had never wavered from his advice then I'd be sitting in a rented mobile home working for scraps right now. Fark him. :X

I jumped in neck deep and financed all my stuff for 4 years. Its all paid for now. If the economy picks up, I should be sitting pretty this year.

Good thing you did it early on .Cause the economy looks terrible.
I paid cash for all my stuff.
Hard earned tree climbing cash.
I did finance the homestead though:P

My old man was the complete opposite. He told me save your money and as much as possible, use someone else's money to buy stuff. He believed in borrowing to finance real estate and business, but not for stuff like new furniture or TVs.

Rich dad poor dad.

Great book! That was the book that inspired me to begin investing in my future. Since then I've read a couple dozen good books on investing and creating wealth. In fact just today I got my copy of a book by Nicolas Darvas which I'll read this weekend.

I recently bought the Cash Flow game, haven't tried playing it yet. Looks like a fun, educational game though. Also bought the Cash Flow For Kids game for a Christmas present for the kiddies.
